Feedlots can now gain a deeper understanding of the essential office and administration processes that support successful feedlot operations through the new Office and Administration Fundamentals series, the latest educational initiative developed by ALFA & MLA available on our online training platform, Feedlot TECH.



The office and administration team are the backbone of any feedlot, playing a vital role in managing records, overseeing compliance, handling finances, and supporting operational logistics. This series is designed to equip feedlot office and administration staff with the skills and knowledge they need to ensure the smooth and efficient running of feedlot operations.


SERIES OBJECTIVES

The Office and Administration Fundamentals course is structured into three key courses, each focusing on a critical area of feedlot administration:


Course 1: Foundations of Feedlot Administration

The office and administration team on a feedlot plays a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of the feedlot. This dynamic role covers a wide variety of tasks and requires input into every aspect of the feedlot. In this course, you will be introduced to the concepts of communication, record keeping, NFAS, finance, human resources and office management.

 

In this course, you will learn to:

  • Understand the importance of record keeping

  • Acknowledge the role you play in NFAS

  • Recognise your role in the feedlot finances

  • Understand how you can contribute to human resources

  • Help facilitate training of staff at your feedlot



 


Course 2: Administration of Commodities

Office and administration staff play a crucial role in managing commodities on a feedlot by ensuring efficient documentation, tracking inventory levels, coordinating orders, and facilitating seamless operations. Your attention to detail and organisational skills are instrumental in maintaining accurate records and optimising resource allocation, ultimately contributing to the smooth functioning of the feedlot's supply chain.

 

Completing this course will help you to:

  • Understand the importance of commodity management

  • Know your role in overseeing commodity procurement, receival and storage

  • Carry out best practices for record keeping and regulatory compliance

  • Facilitate effective coordination of commodity management




 

Course 3: Administration of Livestock

Office and administration staff play a crucial role in managing livestock on a feedlot. You play are role in the receival and dispatch of cattle, weighing of livestock trucks, ensuring required paperwork is complete and correct and maintaining livestock records. Your role is vital in ensuring livestock are accepted for their desired market.


In this course, you will learn to:

  • Understand the cattle receive and dispatch process

  • Know what documentation is required for livestock administration

  • Complete required livestock paperwork to meet requirements

  • Understand the software and technology that is available
