In 2025, ALFA's Animal Welfare Officer (AWO) Accredited Training will be delivered online via Feedlot TECH. AWO training will be delivered next in-person in 2026.
Registration details will be available closer to the date.
The online training course, delivered by a feedlot veterinarian and ALFA’s Technical Services Officer Jeff House, provides feedlot managers, supervisors, key training personnel and quality assurance officers with the most up-to-date knowledge and skills for the management, assessment, auditing and on-the-job training of animal welfare within a feedlot operation.
The course materials are based on the in-person theory content and the groups sessions provide students the chance to connect with presenters in real time, run the feedlot audit walk through simulation and undertake the group work required for accreditation. A post-course assessment is also required to gain accreditation. Students must complete all elements of the course to pass.
CERTIFICATION
Upon successful completion of the online training and post-training assessment, students will be issued with a Statement of Attainment from TAFE Queensland (RTO Number 0275) for the Animal Welfare Officer Skill Set, containing the following units of competency:
AMPA2006 - Apply animal welfare and handling requirements
