Animal Health & Welfare Committee

The ALFA Animal Health and Welfare (AH&W) Committee guides grain fed beef levy investment in a range of animal health, welfare and biosecurity programs managed by Meat & Livestock Australia and Animal Health Australia. The Committee also provides advice to the ALFA Council on current issues and policies in animal health, welfare and biosecurity matters, with the strategic objective of ensuring the Australian feedlot industry maintains its reputation for good animal husbandry practices through identifying and addressing opportunities to improve the health and welfare of Australia’s grain fed cattle.
Specifically the Committee looks after the following matters:
  • Animal Health Australia issues
  • Cattle disease contingency fund
  • Animal welfare issues – Australian & overseas
  • Biosecurity eg EADRA, legislation
  • AUS-VET plan
  • Feeder cattle issues
  • BSE & other exotic diseases issues
  • NRS & cattle residue issues
  • NRS management committee
  • State & Federal government legislation regarding animal health & welfare
  • Animal health product issues ie APVMA, antibiotics, vaccines
